Tips for Searching

At its simplest, a query can be just a word or a phrase. But with the tips on this page, you can expand the focus of your query to give you more complete results. The search allows queries to be formed using  "+" , "," ,"#", and "*" options. For example:

Use of And (+) option

e.g.1. "microwave + oven": retrieves all records about microwave ovens
e.g.2.
"microwave + [oven, antenna]": locates records mentioning microwave oven and microwave antenna

Use of Or (,) function:

e.g.1. "Laser, beam" retrieves records either having laser alone or beam alone or having both. For records having both laser as well as beam, use "laser + beam".

Use of bracket [ ] option: (Works only in Title Field)

e.g.1."Laser+ [carbon monoxide, infra red]" looks for carbon monoxide lasers as well a infrared lasers.

Use of wildcard option:

e.g.1. use " * " for plural. In the Title field, the keyword "lamp* " locates lamps as well as lamps.
e.g.2. In the Application No. field, use
"  *del* " for retrieving all applications filed at the New Delhi Patent Office branch and likewise for other Patent Office branches.
e.g.3. Use of
"bom* + *95 " locates all applications filed in the Bombay branch in 1995.
e.g.4. In the Title field
"wave* " locates wave, waves, wavefront, wavelength, etc.
e.g.5.
" *wave " locates microwaves, radiowaves, shortwaves, etc.

Use of Not (#) option: (Works only in Title Filed)

e.g.1. microwave# [oven, antenna] locates all those records which contain microwave without oven or antenna.

Note: Please use [ ] after the not (#) option.
